Your Love, your way
Planning a Wedding Without All the Fluff? You’re in the Right Place. Let’s dream up all the details for your courthouse wedding in Fresno.

Let’s be real for a second… Not every wedding needs a massive guest list, towering florals, or a five-tier cake. Sometimes all you really want is to vow your love in the most genuine way possible – just the two of you, a signed marriage license, and someone (hi, that’s me!) to document the joy on your faces.
Downtown Fresno has this perfect mix of city architecture, gorgeous golden light, and tucked-away green spaces that make it ideal for intimate elopements. I’ve had the honor of capturing courthouse ceremonies that felt like full-on celebrations – even with just three people present.
If planning something small, meaningful, and true to you sounds like your style… here’s how to make it happen.

Why a Courthouse Wedding in Fresno Could Be Perfect for You
So many couples I work with come to me worried about doing things “the right way.” But let me tell you – your wedding doesn’t have to follow tradition just because that’s what people expect. Especially for my LGBTQ+ couples, the pressure to make the day palatable for others can get real heavy.
Here’s your official permission slip: you’re allowed to make your marriage day entirely about the two of you. Whether your family is all-in or navigating through complexities, you deserve a wedding that feels affirming, fun, and full of love.
A Downtown Fresno courthouse ceremony lets you skip the stress and focus on what actually matters: you, your forever person, and maybe grabbing pizza and a pint to celebrate. Let’s dive into how to make it happen.Planning a Courthouse Wedding in Fresno, CA: Everything You Need to Know
Step 1: Apply for Your Marriage License
Your first stop is the Fresno County Clerk’s Office. Both you and your partner will need to go in person with valid photo IDs. No appointment is required (which makes things super convenient), but it’s always smart to check their website for current hours and any updates to their requirements.
Here’s a quick checklist:
- Both partners must be present
- Bring government-issued photo IDs
- Licenses are issued the same day and are valid immediately
- You’ll have 90 days to use it, so plan accordingly
Step 2: Choose the Ceremony Style That Fits You Best
Whether you’re going for something quick and simple or a little more personal, you’ve got options:
Civil Ceremony at the Courthouse
If you want to say “I do” right inside the courthouse, you can book a civil ceremony with a Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages. This option does require an appointment, so be sure to plan ahead.
- Please do not throw rice, flowers, confetti, etc.
- No food or drinks allowed.
- Fee $21
- 👉 Important note: Only six people total are allowed inside the Clerk’s Office. So if it’s just you, your partner, and me—we’re good to go.
Personalized Ceremony with Your Own Officiant
Prefer something a little more custom? Bring your own officiant and exchange vows outside the courthouse or at a nearby park or downtown location. I’m happy to help find the perfect spot and capture every moment.
Need a Witness?
If it’s just the two of you, I’m more than happy to serve as your witness and sign your marriage license.

Step 3: Dress in What Makes You Feel Amazing
There’s no dress code for a courthouse wedding in Fresno, CA—so wear whatever feels like you. Whether that’s a classic gown, a modern suit, colorful kicks, or something totally non-traditional, this is your moment to show up as your full self.
Pro tip: Fresno can get warm, so if we’re heading out for portraits afterward, lightweight and breathable fabrics will keep you feeling comfortable and photo-ready.

4. Plan Something Fun After Your “I Do’s”
Once the license is signed and sealed – let’s celebrate your way.
Some of my favorite post-elopement ideas in Downtown Fresno:
- Strolling through the Tower District for portraits and coffee
- Catching sunset photos at a grassy park or industrial rooftop
- Heading to the mural district for unique wedding portraits
- Grabbing a slice and a beer at your favorite local pub
- Even catching a Grizzlies game at Chukchansi Park if that’s your thing
Don’t feel boxed in by “what’s expected.” This is your day. If your dream elopement ends with you two dancing in the street or clinking pizza crusts as the sun goes down… I’ll be there with camera in hand, capturing it all.

You Deserve a Wedding Day That Feels Like You
Listen – elopements aren’t a consolation prize. They’re a powerful, beautiful choice for couples who want to feel seen and prioritized on their wedding day. No drama. No pressure. Just love and joy and connection.
Getting married in Fresno doesn’t have to be complicated, formal, or overly produced. It can be simple. It can be intentional. And it can still be drop-dead stunning.
I’m here to cheer you on, make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way, and deliver images filled with real emotion – the kind you’ll look back on and feel all over again.
